Some of the top indie rock artists of today are set to play on stages around the world in 2016. Indie rock is an extremely diverse genre of music which includes elements of rock, folk country, metal, punk, soft pop, and techno. With indie rock pulling its sound from a variety of styles it is not hard to see why it is loved by music fans across multiple fan bases. I have compiled a list of some of my favorite indie rock artists touring in 2016. This is not all inclusive but it does cover many of the staple artists of the indie rock genre today.
2016 Indie Rock Artists Touring
Alabama Shakes:
This has been a big year so far for Alabama Shakes who just recently won three Grammys at the 58th Grammy Awards Show. They have risen quickly into mainstream music but they remain a favorite among indie rock fans. They will be touring across America this summer with their opening acts including artists like Dylan Leblanc, Ghost Ranch, Emily King, Dawes, and Kurt Vile and the Violators. They will also be playing the Xponential Music Festival in New Jersey in July with artists like Ryan Adams, Brandi Carlile, Gary Clark, Jr., and more.
Atlas Genius:
Atlas Genius will be touring through May this year with opening acts like Skylar Gray, The Young and Wild, and Secret Weapons. They will be playing a special show in Las Vegas with Panic! At the Disco on May 12th.
Beach House:
Beach House will only be playing a few shows this year (that I know of) in New York, Boston, California, and Canada with their opening act Moss of Aura. Hopefully they will be adding some more dates soon. They have become one of my go to bands to listen to over the last few months.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club:
I almost didn’t include BRMC since they are really only doing a festival this year. But they are a favorite of not only me but many others as well so they made the cut. They will be playing the Lost Highway Festival in San Bernardino, CA along with Brantley Gilbert, Social Distortion, and more.
Blind Pilot:
Blind Pilot will be touring with Vance Joy along with Jamie Lawson at various locations up and down the eastcoast.
Cage The Elephant:
Cage the Elephant will be on the Spring Fling Tour this year along with Foals, Bear Hands, and another indie rock favorite of mine, Silversun Pickups.
The Dandy Warhols:
These Portland natives will be playing several locations up and down the eastcoast on their Distortland tour.
Daughter:
Daughter has become a staple on my indie rock playlist. They will be playing a handful of shows this year along with Wilsen.
Death Cab For Cutie:
Death Cab For Cutie in many ways is the poster child band for indie rock. They have for years been one of my favorite bands of any genre. They will be touring this year along with CHVRCHES and Pure Bathing Culture. You will also be able to catch them at Bonnaroo along with Pearl Jam, Dead and Company, LCD Soundsystem, and more.
Deer Tick:
Another favorite of mine which you will be able to see them play in a handful of venues this year along with Mutual Benefit.
HAIM:
You will be able to catch HAIM at both the Bunbury Music Festival (along with The Killers & Florence and the Machine) as well as Bonnaroo (with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, and more).
M83:
M83 will be playing an extensive number of shows on the eastcoast through summer 2016 along with Yacht and Bob Moses.
Modest Mouse:
One of the most loved of all indie rock bands has many dates available across America in 2016. They will be playing along acts like Brand New and The Districts.
The Mountain Goats:
The Mountain Goats has a small number of shows available so far in 2016. If you see them in Cleveland you will be able to see them play along with William Tyler.
Mumford & Sons:
Mumford & Sons is also among the bands with several dates already added to their list in 2016. They will be touring some with Blake Mills but only at select locations.
The Naked and Famous:
The Naked and Famous will be playing a few shows this year with The Rubens.
