Adam Levine learned a lesson on Wednesday night: Sugar isn’t always sweet. The Maroon 5 front man, whose song “Sugar” hit number one on Billboard’s pop charts, was signing autographs outside of the Hollywood Theater before his performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live when he was suddenly “sugar bombed”. Yes. That’s right. A man threw a bag of powdered sugar right at Adam Levine’s face.
Obviously shocked and upset, Levine still handled the incident in stride. He removed his sugar covered sweater and stepped to the side with Kimmel’s security who contacted the LAPD. The “attacker”, Navid Farri, 28, was apprehended by police shortly after. He was arrested on suspicion of battery and is being held on a $100,000 bail.
As they say, though, “the show must go on”. After speaking to police, Levine laughed and joked in his interview with Kimmel before taking the stage where he delivered a flawless performance. A true testament to not only his talent as an artist but his character overall.
This hasn’t been the first time this year that he has been tested by a crazed fan (not that I would consider someone who throws sugar in a celebrity’s face a “fan”). During a show in Anaheim in early April, an overzealous fan rushed the stage as Levine performed. She grabbed him from behind and ended up cutting his ear with her fingernail as she tried to wrap her arms around his neck. As always, he handled the situation with grace, leading her gently towards security before she was taken off stage. He later admitted that although he remained calm on the outside, it did scare him at first. You have to respect the guy. Here’s to hoping that he doesn’t have anymore similar run ins anytime soon.
